Buffet Palace Oriental

The Bullet Palace Oriental on Taschereau is now closed and will be replaced by a Buffet Fu Lam.

Ah, buffets. The buffet lovers fill with hope of great things to come at the thought of visiting one, but they often leave the place a bit, well, disappointed. Why is that? And why am I saying this as I prepare to talk about the buffet called Palace Oriental?

I was pleasantly surprised during my first visit there, not long after it opened. I even went back with Sandra, knowing full well that she's no fan of buffets. She didn't seem to regret her visit since we returned a few more times. Unfortunately, the more we visited the restaurant, the less we wanted to come back. Our last time there was only to make out teenager happy.

Why? After all, it's clean, the waiters are polite (though not always available, as in most buffets). Is it the price? Around $17 per person. Hmmm, a bit on the expensive side for a buffet, but it's not the main reason. You probably guessed it, it was the quality of the food. Things started going down after a few months. I'd like to tell myself that it's because I grew tired of eating "Chinese" food, the dim sums, or even the sushis they offer, but that wouldn't be very honest. Truthfully, our meals there now end with us being somewhat nauseous, as if we'd just finished drinking a cup of canola oil.

We both feel like something happened in the kitchen (though this is perfectly subjective). At first, I though this buffet was better than most. These days, I've started visiting another one.

I ate at the taschereau location last night (sunday) with 2 friends. I can honestly say it was the WORST buffet I have ever been to! Food was not fresh, dishes never replenished, veggie dishes were either mush or dry, no chicken at all in some of the breaded chickes dishes suck as General Tao, Pinapple chicken etc. I actually broke them apart to see ... I was astonished to find NO CHICKEN in many of them.

I will definatly never take a chance on a Fu Lam again. Looks great on the tv adverts ... but it is definatly not what you get in the restaurant .. not even close!!!!

hope this saves someone else from wasting their money or time!

Hi Randy, and thank you for your comments. I recently reviewed the Fu Lam restaurant on Taschereau and was also disapointed by the food. It in the French section of this blog, in case you want to read it.

I don't think I'll be going back to Fu Lam either... At least not for a long while.
